The ICAC is committed to strengthening international anti-corruption cooperation. Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) of South Africa in May 2024, the two organisations have continued to deepen their partnership . Earlier from October 12 to 15, the ICAC’s Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption (HKIAAC), the SIU and the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) jointly organised the “Regional Capacity Building Programme – Global Frontiers in Corruption Prevention” in Pretoria, South Africa. The programme adopted a regional approach and brought together 100 anti-corruption representatives from 17 countries in Africa, making it the ICAC’s overseas capacity building programme with the widest jurisdictional participation to date.
The programme also showcased the strength of the “tripartite partnership” among the ICAC, HKIAAC and IAACA in fostering international anti-graft cooperation. In addition to leveraging IAACA’s international network to invite anti-corruption representatives from across Africa to participate, Mr. Leonard Lekgetho, Head of SIU and Vice President of IAACA, also showed his support by attending the opening session.
The four-day programme focused on conflicts of interest and corruption prevention. The curriculum covered corruption prevention strategies for both the public and private sectors. ICAC officers also introduced the ICAC’s newly launched “Integrity Assurance Standards for Computer System” and shared valuable practical experience and case studies, as well as the use of technology in corruption prevention and delivery of preventive education through a multi-platform approach.
Building on the strong partnership among the ICAC, HKIAAC and IAACA, the ICAC will continue to deepen collaboration with anti-corruption partners across Africa and around the world, advancing regional anti-corruption capacity building and strengthening the global anti-corruption network.
